Rio Tinto’s chief scientist Dr Robin Batterham says that a shift to new technology like geothermal might be more expensive than we first thought and that existing technology might still have something to offer. AGL CEO Michael Fraser says it is unlikely that new coal generators will be built without significant improvement in that technology. I agree with both views. I like the way Dr Batterham points out that when you put up incentives and Carbon Trading is one incentive then you could discover new ideas and other benefits as well. We might find answers that will help us in the quest for a cleaner and healthier environment, with less pollution and more power if the right incentives and opportunities prompts us to look in that direction.
